Current Barebrush June 2012 Contests:

Deadline: May 21, 2012

The June 2012 calendars will be in previews (for members only) at the end of May, and live for the public on June 1. The press releases announcing the calendars will be published on or about June 1, 2012. All artists in each calendar will be listed by name and date in the press release, as well as on the calendar page which displays their art. The calendar artists will be notified via email prior to June 1. Artists will also receive an email when their art is live on “their day” and visible on the front page and private portal pages of Barebrush. Their day will also be announced the the Barebrush News & Events Blog. The announcement also goes to Facebook and Twitter. Each calendar series participates in the private portal page.

Jury of Awards:

Nominees for the Curators’ Choice awards will be selected by Charles Yoder, artist, teacher and Chairman of the Art Committee of the Salmagundi Club in Greenwich Village, NYC. All Barebrush curators will be given an opportunity to vote on the selections in their own special poll. The public may also vote. Winners will be determined by a statistical combination of curators’ and public votes.

Jury of Selection:

Curator for the June 2012 calendars will be Charles Yoder, artist, teacher and Chairman of the Art Committee of the Salmagundi Club in Greenwich Village, NYC. When asked to provide a personal statement for the art selection, Mr. Yoder said:

“What I appreciate in any art work is an interesting balanced rhythm of light and dark, a presentation that holds my attention and pleases my eyes and a personal experience unique from the norm.”

Founded in 1871, the Salmagundi Club is one of the oldest art organizations in the United States. Housed in an historic brownstone mansion in Greenwich Village, New York City, the Club offers programs including art classes, exhibitions, painting demonstrations, and art auctions throughout the year for members and the general public.

Charles Yoder was born into the bombed out Germany of the late 40’s to two American sergeants. He led the peripatetic lifestyle one would expect of such a child until arriving in the late 60’s into the bombed out Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Pratt Institute. In the forty plus years of New York City residence, he got a BFA from Pratt, supported his art habit as a director of the Castelli Graphics Gallery in the 70’s and as curator for Robert Rauschenberg and his “Rauschenberg Overseas Cultural Interchange” world tour in the late 80’s. He also married a tall good looking interior designer about that time.

These days he paints full time, teaches printmaking part time at the School of Visual Arts, is Vice President of the Artists’ Fellowship Inc. and is Chairman of the Art Committee of the Salmagundi Club.

About Barebrush:

The original calendar series, N*des-of-the Month was launched in September 2006. With the growing number of submissions, we now have two new series to provide more opportunities for artists to win calendar placement and succeed in raising interest in their art and art careers. The photography/digital nude art calendar, called PhotoArt N*des, now separates the art which is primarily photographic into its own series. In addition, in May 2010, Barebrush opened a call for six new genres: portraits, people in clothes, animals, landscapes, still lifes, and abstracts. Although we do not yet have enough submissions to make a calendar for each genre, we do have enough to make a calendar of them all. Thus, Barebrush announced a new calendar series, Best-of-the-Rest — art of the six new genres together.

Barebrush is dedicated to providing an online venue to show art at a reasonable price. E-commerce is in development. It is complex and complicated, but I am determined to make it work simply and easily for both artists and art buyers.

Barebrush and Barebrush artists — getting better together.
